Rajesh Velagapudi
for School Committee
About Me
I am Rajesh Velagapudi, requesting your vote for the Shrewsbury School Committee on May 6, 2025 (Tuesday).
As an advocate for academic excellence, workforce preparedness, and fiscal accountability, I am committed to strengthening vocational training, STEAM education, and essential life skills to prepare our students for success in the real world.
As a parent of two children attending Shrewsbury schools (a Grade 8 student and a Grade 3 student), I recognize the critical need to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in higher education, technical careers, and the workforce.
Since establishing our residence in Shrewsbury in 2009, I have volunteered on several school and town committees. I am passionate about contributing to the community by sharing my transferable skills and knowledge to foster societal improvement. I have consistently enjoyed collaborating with my fellow committee members and town residents.
I hold a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and have professional experience facilitating research that develops products to enhance patients' and the public's health and quality of life. Based on my personal and professional background, I aim to offer distinct scientific and business insights.

Focus Areas
Workforce Readiness & Vocational Training: To ensure our students are prepared for the real world, we must provide more opportunities for career-focused education, such as vocational programs, trade skills, or financial literacy training.
Academic Excellence & STEAM Leadership: We must continue to invest in and expand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEAM) programs to equip our students with the skills they need to succeed in high-demand careers.
Financial Responsibility & Community Engagement: As a member of the Finance Committee, I’ve always advocated for responsible budgeting, ensuring that every dollar is used effectively to benefit our students and taxpayers. I will continue this approach on the School Committee, prioritizing resources for classrooms, teachers, and essential programs. Promoting active collaboration among families, educators, and local businesses to foster opportunities for students beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Transparency and Accountability:
Enhancing communication among the school committee, educators, parents, and the community to facilitate responsible decision-making.
With experience on the Finance Committee, the Elementary (new Beal) School Redistricting Committee, and the Community Preservation Coalition, to name a few, I bring leadership, vision, and a results-oriented approach to enhancing our schools.
I am dedicated to collaborating closely with School and Town leadership, parents, guardians, residents, and voters, working to build consensus on strategies for long-term growth and financial diligence. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions. I am committed to ensuring every student possesses the resources necessary for success. Together, we can cultivate stronger schools and a more promising future.
Join me in this endeavor!
Please participate in the electoral process, volunteer, and support my campaign for the Shrewsbury School Committee.
Let’s work together to empower our students and strengthen our community!
